Ngwazi Mutharika in Mozambique

Malawi President His Excellency Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika is in the neighbouring Mozambique for a three day official visit.

Ngwazi Dr Mutharika left the country on Monday morning through the Chileka International Airport.

Thousands upon thousands of people led by the country’s Vice President Joyce Banda saw-off the President at the airport.

Speaking to journalists before departure, the State President said that he was going to Mozambique in order to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Malawians and the people of Mozambique have been friends for a long time and have a lot in common, culturally, tradition and history,” he said.

The President said that among many other issues to be discussed between leaders from the two countries, issues of transport and communication, trade and energy would feature highly on the agenda.

He said Malawi stands to benefit a lot from Mozambique through the Shire Zambezi Waterway which will also be discussed on the visit.

According to a Malawi Digest reporter in Mozambique, the State President landed at the Maputo International Airport at 11:00am where he was met by his Mozambican counterpart, Armando Guebuza and Malawi High Commissioner to Mozambique, Dr Martin Kamsichi.

The President is this Monday evening being hosted to State Banquet by his Mozambican counterpart.

On Tuesday, the President will leave Maputo for Sofala Province where he is expected to visit the port of Baira.

Later the same day back in Maputo, the State President is expected to address and interact with Malawians resident in Mozambique.

State President Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika has been accompanied on the trip by Foreign Affairs Minister Pro.Etta Banda, Transport Minister Khumbo Kachali, Energy Minister Grain Malunga and Trade and Industry Minister Eunice Kazembe.

The Ngwazi is expected back home on Wednesday-Malawi Digest.
