The Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance has applauded President Ngwazi Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika for developing Malawi in the 5 years he has been in power.

The praise by the committee comes fast on the heels of the release for results for the 2009 Welfare Monitoring Survey done by the National Statistics Office (NSO) whose headquarters are in the former colonial capital, Zomba.

According to the results of the survey, Malawi’s financial trends have remained stable from the year 2004 when President Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika took power and continue to present times despite countries around the world experiencing the current global financial woes.

In an interview with Malawi Digest following the release of the survey, Parliamentary Committee chairperson on Budget and Finance Ralph Jooma said the results by this independent survey have shown and confirmed the good leadership skills that are in the current administration.

“The fact that the NSO has confirmed through this survey that the financial trends are moving so positively in Malawi since 2004, this is a clear indication that the country has good leadership under Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika,” he said.

The youthful committee chairman who is also ruling Democratic Progressive Party Member of Parliament for Mangochi-Monkeybay said the fact that the country’s financial trends have increased since 2004 and improving by 40% from last year, this is a great achievement to government,” said Jooma.

The Parliamentarian added that Malawians should feel proud and applaud Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika for managing to maintain the country’s financial stability despite world financial downturn that has affected many countries.

The committee chairperson then asked the Bingu led government to continue initiating programs and plans that have made the country to experience this financial stability.

“There is a need for government to sustain and prolong its strategies that it has put in place for the country to continue moving ahead in development,” he said.

According to the independent survey that looks at the welfare of people in Malawi the results have also shown that , Ngwazi Dr Bingu wa Mutharika and his government have been able to trim down poverty levels for the general population in Malawi.

The survey results have come out just 100 days after President Ngwazi Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika’s landslide victory in May’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections and his swearing in to office for another 5 years.

According to another survey carried out by the Malawi Digest, many people including businesspersons, political analysts and economists have acknowledged and applauded the Mutharika’s administration for captivating Malawi from poverty to prosperity as evidenced through the food abundance, good education standards, enhancement of security services, good health services, financial immovability as well as humanizing sporting disciplines-Malawi Digest.
